How To Make Hand-painted Valentines

Supplies:

  • Cardstock (at least two pieces, one to cut hearts from and one to fold to make the card)
  • A writing utensil
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic craft paint in desired colors
  • A paper plate or piece of newspaper
  • Q-tips (one per color)

Step 1: Take one piece of cardstock and fold both sides to the center.  Draw half hearts on the folds and cut out the hearts on the lines.  When you open them, you’ll have a nice, even heart.

Step 2: Fold your other piece of cardstock in half to make a card.  Tape the hearts to the front.  Don’t press the tape down too tightly or it will tear the paper when you remove them.  Make these Handpainted Valentine's Cards with your kids and give something grandma and grandpa will love!

Step 3: Squirt a little bit of paint onto the paper plate.  Use the q-tip to get a little bit of paint.  Make dots all over your page.  The more dots, the better (as you can see in the finished products).  Make sure all the edges of the hearts have dots covering them.  This gives the hearts a nice outline.

As you can see, the neater your dots, the nicer the card looks, but even with messy dots, it gives a neat effect that your children’s friends, grandparents, and teachers will love!

How about you?  Do you think you’ll try making handpainted Valentine’s Cards this year?  Let me know if you do!  I’d love to see your finished product!

I love this idea! It would be great with do-a-dot markers for smaller kids, or even finger painting or smeary brush painting! Really cute!
