Learning About Money–Plus Free Printable and a Giveaway

Learning about money combines several skills into one.  I think that’s what makes it so tricky for young students to get a handle on it all.  My 6 year old does not like to work with money right now, but it isn’t really the coins that scare her.  It’s all the math that goes with it.

For example, she knows the values of the coins very well and loves playing games or being quizzed about their values.  And she doesn’t mind being asked to count up any single coin tossed in with a bunch of pennies.  She’s confident that she can count each penny by ones up to the total.  But she isn’t so confident about counting by 5’s or 10’s or 25’s.  At least not when she has to count ‘on’ from some other number, as you would have to do to efficiently count up a quarter and 5 dimes.

Skills like counting by 1’s, 5’s, 10’s, 25’s and hundreds sure do come in handy.  So does place value when you have to imagine counting by tens when you’ve ended on 75.

Over the next month, when I’m not featuring Constitution Week resources, I’ll be focusing on money and all the skills that go with being able to count coins efficiently.  I hope you’ll find the resources as useful as our other printables.

To kick off the September money focus a little early, we’re offering our set of printable coins for free.  These are incredibly high quality graphics.  The set includes coins that are perfectly accurate in size as well as two larger sets (one is pretty huge!) which can be used as a classroom set up on the board (just add a  little magnet on the back) or for careful examination of the coin.

I hope you enjoy them and come back all through September for more money resources.

And now, here’s a giveaway reminder.  Today is the LAST DAY to get in on the Not Back To School Blog Hop Giveaway.  It’s been a fun, nearly month long contest, but it’s time to pick a winner tomorrow.  You can only be a winner if you enter!  Just click the link to go find the giveaway.

The Pre-Writing Pack Is Done! plus a Freebie and a Giveaway

Hi everyone!  I meant for this post to go up last night.  But instead, I stayed up waaaaaay tooooo laaaate, finishing up a PreK Pre-writing pack.  It came out pretty cool, if you ask me, and I think your kids, even as young as 2 1/2 with help, up to about 4 or 5, will really enjoy practicing their skills and strengthening their little hands with these sheets.

Filled with cute graphics, children are encouraged to practice tracing abstract lines from left to right (the lines help get their hands ready for drawing letter shapes).  They also practice drawing actual letters, which are grouped by their shape, rather than alphabetically.  They get to strengthen their hands with coloring pages that are themed to match the tracing sets plus there are bonus Do-A-Dot worksheets, which are fantastic for coordination.

Well, enough of my blathering.  Here is a look at the pack and a link to bring you over to it.

And if you missed the freebie version of this pack, you can take a look at it and get it here:

Now I did promise you an extra freebie today and here it is.  We’re getting ready for Constitution Week around here.  Did you know about that?  I’m always amazed at how many people don’t even know that there is a Constitution Week.  It starts with Constitution Day on September 17th and finishes up on September 23rd.  We’ll be talking more about that here soon, but in the mean time, here’s a set of Dolch Word cards with a patriotic theme that you can use to help your little patriots learn to read with.

And lastly, there is the Giveaway I spoke of.  Today and tomorrow are the last days you can enter into the big Not Back To School Blog Hop Giveaway.  We’ve had so much fun being a part of that blog hop and I’m looking forward to picking a winner on Saturday.  Will you be one of the people choosing $10 worth of free items from the LLL Store?  Not if you don’t enter!  Smile

Tuesday Freebie: Pre-Writing Pack for Pre-Schoolers!

It’s the last week of the blog hop.  (Did you see the Little Learning Lovies posts for the Not Back To School Blog HopClick here if you want to check them out!)  I’ve met a lot of great new friends by joining in and to celebrate, I’m going to make sure there’s a new freebie every day this week.

Today, I’m going to show you something I’ve been working on.  This is the sample set from my newest learning pack for PreK kids.  Take a look:

This sample is completely free!  It includes 10 pages of tracing and coloring designed to help your little ones strengthen their hands and get used to that all important left to right motion.  These are vital skills for mastering the art of handwriting later on, and they help get your preschooler ready to read, as well!

Cute graphics and bright colors help make these PreWriting sheets engaging enough to repeat several times over the course of your PreK year.

Pack includes alphabet tracing, where the letters on the sheet have similar stroke patterns.  Also, there are Do-A-Dot sheets that have children use Dot-A-Dot markers or bingo markers or even put magnets on the sheet (just put the sheet on a cookie sheet!)  Below are images and links to these products on Amazon, if you don’t already have them.

You can glue some sparkly pom-poms, stickers, scrapbook paper or anything else you can imagine onto those magnets to make them super fun!  Smile

I’m still working on the full pack.  It’s big!  But I should have it finished in a day or two.  If you download the sample, or any other product from the store, you’ll get an email from me when the big pack is finished.

Before you head on to your next blog, or step away from the computer long enough to feed your children (didn’t I just make them breakfast yesterday??Smile) you might want to take a moment to go enter the Not Back To School Blog Hop Giveaway.  4 of you can win $10 to spend at the LLL store and this is the last week you can enter.  I’ll be announcing the winners on September 1st.

Thanks for stopping by!  See you tomorrow for some free workbox tags.
