New, Updated and Fun…

New:

We use All About Spelling here and I just created a new test booklet just like the one we use all the time.  If you haven’t checked out All About Learning Press, you are in for a real treat!  They have amazing products that teach spelling and reading thoroughly!  Kids (and parents) really learn the language, not just enough to get by, but they learn to read and spell with mastery.

You can get our test book below (which works with any spelling program, not just AAS).

Updated:

We have a very popular set of printable coins that has been updated.

If you previously purchased this one, you can log back into your account and just re-download to get the bigger file.  It now includes extra coins not seen in the original pack, plus we’ve added in a BUNCH of bills.   All for your money learning pleasure!  I hope you come check it out!

Fun:

I mentioned this a few days ago, but TODAY (March 15th) is the last day that you can get a $15 Gift Certificate to spend at Educents just by giving them your email address.  They are a new “Daily Deals” sort of site that is just for educators.  They say that we will be able to save 30-90% and that’s pretty sweet.  They launch on April 2nd.

If you don’t sign up today, you can still get a $10 gift certificate by signing up anywhere from March 16th through April 1st.  The key is to get your email address in to them BEFORE they launch on the 2nd.  I’m looking forward to it and I hope you are too!

Time to Tell Time!

One of my daughters is struggling with those very tricky analog clocks and their secret time keeping abilities.  She has a few particular issues but mostly, she just needs more practice figuring it all out.

Most of the worksheets that come with her regular curriculum are, to be blunt, boring!  I usually love her curriculum (Math Mammoth, if you’d like to know) but on this topic, it just isn’t working for her.  So, I decided to make some fun stuff for her… and you!

This game comes with 24 color coded cards.  There are a few ways you can use them, but my favorite way is to cut them apart and hang them up around the house (or classroom).  Then, the children take their recording sheets and go searching for the cards.  Once they find one, they write what time it says near the matching picture on their sheet.  It’s a really fun and different way to practice that gets them up and moving a bit rather than staying in their seats.

The cards in Easter “Time” – A “Telling Time” Game are color coded so you can adjust the game to fit the level of the children you are working with.  The blue bordered ones tell time to the whole hour.  The yellow ones tell time to each quarter hour and the green ones go to every five minutes.  You can hang up just one set or you can hang them all up and tell each child what color border to look for.  Or they can find one of each picture with ANY color border…

I hope you get a chance to check this one out at the store!  (And you can use “March2013” coupon code to get 10% off!)

One of the things my daughters book was working on with her was telling time with phrases.  They used “On The Hour”, “A Quarter After”, “Half Past”, and “A Quarter To”.  This proved tricky for her.  So I made this Easter themed game to help her.

In “A Quarter To … Easter!”, there are 32 egg cards, 16 with analog time and 16 with digital time, that children will sort to the right place on the mats.  You can put the mats in a file folder for easier game play or keep the mats apart if you’d like.

I hope you enjoy these games!  Tell me, what themes do YOU want to see show up in the store?

New Clip Cards Complete the Set! (Division)

I’m not sure why, but when I was little and learning to multiply and divide, I hated division.  It took me a long time to see the patterns and realize that it’s really not so bad.  It would have been even easier for me if I had memorized my multiplication facts.  And those would have been easier if I had memorized my addition and subtraction facts.

Vowing not to allow my children to suffer from the same deficiency, I’m pretty adamant about drilling our facts. I don’t like being mean, though, so I like to make this stuff as fun as possible.  Enter: Clip Cards!

I’ve created clip cards for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts and they are a lot of fun!  Kids take a card and a paper clip or clothes pin.  They read the question at the top and “clip” their answer.  Instructions for making it all self checking are included too to they can practice independently.  You can choose which fact sets you want to practice easily because they are color coded.

We have a great bundle of our Farm Themed Clip Card Math Fact Practice where you’ll get all 4 clip card sets plus the record charts to help keep track of student progress and you’ll save $4 by purchasing them all together.

Here’s a look at the individual clip card sets in the bundle (clicking on the pictures will take you to just that set.  Click the Bundle image above to find the bundle!)

And here’s another clip card set you might like. It’s not in the bundle, but it’s fun and a great way to start little ones on clip cards…

These Counting Clip Cards — On The Farm are only $2.00

I hope you get the chance to try one of these fun sets.  If you want to try them before you purchase the whole bundle, you can find a FREE version of the addition cards that you can print and try.  Just visit the Little Learning Lovies Store and click on “Math”.

New Set Of Multiplication Clip Cards!

My kids LOVE their clip cards!  They work hard through math time to squeak out a few extra free minutes at the end for clip cards and games.  We are working on addition and subtraction (yes… subtraction cards are coming soon!) but a customer recently asked me for some multiplication drill.  Well, I just couldn’t resist turning our farm themed addition clip cards into multiplication cards

Take a look:

If you’ve never used clip cards, I have to say that they are one of the most worthwhile printables.  I don’t laminate everything, in fact I don’t laminate much, but I laminate our clip cards because they are worth it!  They get used over and over by my three kids and I’m sure my little one will love them when she’s a little older too!

Here is the addition version: (*Note: I know that the 5’s have the wrong answers in this sample pic… But they are correct in the file!  I’ll get to updating this sample image one of these days!Smile)

and here is the counting version so your preschoolers can join in with the big kids!

But Sandie, I don’t know how to use clip cards!

Well, don’t worry!  They are very easy to do.  After you have them all printed and cut (you’ll end up with 156 cards if you are using either the full addition set or the multiplication set!) you decide if you want them to be self checking.  If you do, just take a pencil and very lightly put a tiny dot on the back of the correct answer for each card.  Then you can laminate them if you’d like.

Now you put together a stack of cards (all of them, or just the facts you want to practice right now) and a hand full of paper clips or clothes pins.  The student then picks a card, reads the question, takes a clip and “clips” the answer they think is correct.  To check if they are right, they just flip the card over and see if they clipped the dot!

Are you ready to try them?  You can for FREE!  I have a free set of addition cards (a smaller sample of the big set) so you and your kids can try them out and see how you like them for drill practice.  You can even set a timer and graph your times, trying to improve each time!  It’s fun and easy and they can do it on their own while mom/dad/teacher is off helping someone else!  Smile  Here’s the freebie for you:

I hope you enjoy your math drill for Addition and Multiplication, and Counting for the little ones!.  I don’t think I’ve ever met a young child who couldn’t use a little more practice in these areas and I don’t see any reason why we can’t make it fun!  So go ahead and print off some clip cards!   Your kids will thank you!

**BONUS: There is a coupon good through the end of October that get’s you $2.50 off an order of $5 or more.  Just enter “TryMe” at checkout and you could get a set of clip cards for just $3.50!  What do you have to lose??**

Speaking of something new, we have a new product at the store that I think you’ll like:

This 60 page PDF is packed full of beautiful counting cards, perfect for back to school and autumn/harvest themes.  Children practice counting out the right number of apples, based on the numeral on the tree card.  They also get to choose the correct numeral based on the number of apples on the tree card.  And, they get to match the big number word apples to the tree cards.  This Counting Apples pack covers numbers from 1-20.

There’s a free sample version that has all the same activities but only goes from 1-4.  Just enough to try it out and to work with your very youngest preschool students.

Try it out and if you like it, grab the full pack.  It’s a fun, hands on activity your little ones will love doing over and over again.

I hope you enjoy these!  If you use them, please come back and let me know what you think.   I love comments! Smile

Learning About Money–Plus Free Printable and a Giveaway

Learning about money combines several skills into one.  I think that’s what makes it so tricky for young students to get a handle on it all.  My 6 year old does not like to work with money right now, but it isn’t really the coins that scare her.  It’s all the math that goes with it.

For example, she knows the values of the coins very well and loves playing games or being quizzed about their values.  And she doesn’t mind being asked to count up any single coin tossed in with a bunch of pennies.  She’s confident that she can count each penny by ones up to the total.  But she isn’t so confident about counting by 5’s or 10’s or 25’s.  At least not when she has to count ‘on’ from some other number, as you would have to do to efficiently count up a quarter and 5 dimes.

Skills like counting by 1’s, 5’s, 10’s, 25’s and hundreds sure do come in handy.  So does place value when you have to imagine counting by tens when you’ve ended on 75.

Over the next month, when I’m not featuring Constitution Week resources, I’ll be focusing on money and all the skills that go with being able to count coins efficiently.  I hope you’ll find the resources as useful as our other printables.

To kick off the September money focus a little early, we’re offering our set of printable coins for free.  These are incredibly high quality graphics.  The set includes coins that are perfectly accurate in size as well as two larger sets (one is pretty huge!) which can be used as a classroom set up on the board (just add a  little magnet on the back) or for careful examination of the coin.

I hope you enjoy them and come back all through September for more money resources.

And now, here’s a giveaway reminder.  Today is the LAST DAY to get in on the Not Back To School Blog Hop Giveaway.  It’s been a fun, nearly month long contest, but it’s time to pick a winner tomorrow.  You can only be a winner if you enter!  Just click the link to go find the giveaway.
