Homemade playdough for Springtime

Looking for a fun craft for your toddler/preschooler that will also double as playtime? Then look no further! Homemade Springtime Playdough will be the perfect boredom buster.

As a little girl, I could sit for hours playing with playdough. Using mini cookie cutters to cut out shapes and plastic forks to make designs, was always a favorite playtime for me. I still love to see children enjoying creating with playdough.  Letting their imagination run wild as the animals, they cut out, come alive in front of them.

But working as a childcare giver for many years, I also know how they love to try to eat it. (:  My hubby always said he ate plenty as a child and he turned out okay! LOL But I still have trouble watching kiddos stick it in their mouth and swallow.

That is why I wanted to create a play-dough that is non-toxic for your little ones!

Make a batch of Homemade Springtime Playdough, grab some fun cutouts and watch your toddler enjoy!

4.) Pour into a saucepan and cook over medium heat until dough forms. (It will start to ball together)

6.) After completely cooled, let your preschooler/toddler have an afternoon of fun and excitement!

IMPORTANT NOTE: If your play-dough is still sticky, you simply need to cook it longer!

Why is Homemade Springtime Playdough a good craft for your preschooler?

Fine motor development:

The malleable properties of play dough make it fun for investigation and exploration as well as  building up strength in all the tiny hand muscles.

Finding fun ways to incorporate development skills in playtime is always a bonus with preschoolers.

Children need to have time to use their Imagination and Creativity:

We all have times when we need to express ourselves.  Children need the same time to be creative and to help find what they enjoy doing.

Calming and soothing:

Just like as adults we enjoy squeezing on stress balls when we are tense, play-dough is a great way for little ones to relieve stress  and can feel extremely therapeutic!

Non-Toxic:

By making homemade, you know exactly what ingredients you are using and that even if your child does try to eat, it will not be harmful in anyway!

And believe me, you are never too old to enjoy playdough playtime!
