Never Underestimate the Power Of Your Smile

Never Underestimate the Power Of Your Smile

It was the end of a long, rough day.

My husband and I both had far too much to accomplish within far too few hours. We had both done our best and were both feeling like we had fallen short. It’s never a good way to end a day.

We enjoyed some family time with our children and got them tucked snug in bed. I felt it happen to both of us when we closed their door for the night. We deflated.

The happiness we were trying to feel as we went about our family evening suddenly left us as the weight of the day came rushing back. We each needed just a little space for a few minutes to gather ourselves and deal with our troubles in our own way.

So I sat at my desk. I spent a few minutes just breathing as I mindlessly scrolled through some posts online that I had wanted to read but didn’t get the chance. And I thought about my day. And then I thought about my husbands day which was a far weightier one.

And then he walked by my desk…

He’s my best friend in all the world. He’s there through the celebrations and the tears, he’s seen me at my best, my worst and the somewhere-in-between that I usually default to. And he loves me through it all.

This thought came to my mind as I sat there. I realized I was wallowing in my own relatively minor troubles. And I was filled with gratitude for this man who just walked by my desk.

I caught his eye and smiled. Not a weak smile. No. This was a real smile, the kind that you can feel all over your face and in your heart. It was one that I hoped would convey all the love and happiness that he brings into my life.

He stopped and tilted his head in that way that he has and he smiled back at me in that same way. Our evening completely changed and we were both able to set aside our troubles and enjoy sitting together and chatting about this and that.

That one smile restored us both to a place where we felt capable again.

Ready to handle whatever the next hurtle might be. Ready, because we were reminded of our strength in each other.

Dearest reader… Have you smiled today at your loved ones? Have you shown them that smile that lights up your face? Don’t make them work for it. It’s inside you somewhere and those who love you deserve to see it on your face.

It’s a powerful thing, that smile. It can change your world.

Never Underestimate the Power Of YOUR SMILE! Have YOUR loved ones seen that real, face-lighting smile of yours lately?
